Abstract
IMPORTANCE OF MOLECULAR DIAGNOSIS OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES
The identification and monitoring of infectious diseases has undergone a revolution thanks to the advancement and use of molecular diagnostic tools. Rapid identification has been facilitated by PCR-based techniques that identify the causative agents of disease directly from clinical samples without the requirement for culture. Furthermore, the identification and improved characterization of the pathogen are made possible by the sequencing analysis of amplified microbial DNA. Measuring the viral load and the identification of gene mutations that cause medication resistance directly are important developments in diagnosis of infectious diseases.
