Abstract

SILENT SINUS SYNDROME - A BRIEF- REVIEW
Silent sinus syndrome is a rare pathological condition affecting the maxillary sinus resulting in spontaneous collapse of the sinus walls causing facial asymmetry and unilateral enophthalmos. Silent sinus syndrome is also known as imploding antrum and chronic maxillary atelectasis. Some believe that the congenital development of maxillary sinus may also be responsible for the development of silent sinus syndrome. Although the diagnosis of silent sinus syndrome is initially made clinically it is confirmed radiologically. The definitive treatment for silent sinus syndrome is surgical which includes functional endoscopic sinus surgery and orbital floor augmentation surgery.
