Abstract

Phytochemical, total flavonoid and phenolic contents and in vitro biological profile of Octoblepherum albidum Hedwig.
The present work aims to establish phytochemical and biological profile f moss Octoblepherum albidum Hedwig. Mosses are small flowerless plants that are less studied due to identification problems. But recent reports state that mosses comprise unique metabolites with potent pharmacological activities. In this study, we have established the total flavonoid and phenolic contents of different extracts of O. albidum, pharmacological activity studies and theFT-IR analysis of various extracts. The O. albidum extracts showed variation in chemical composition which were confirmed by FT-IR data. Among all, the acetone extract of O. albidum depicted to have good flavonoid and phenolic contents and better inhibitory profile against M. tuberculosis H37RV strain (MIC 1.6 μg/mL), DPPH (114.0 μg/mL), ABTS (68.1 μg/mL), superoxide (64.1 μg/mL) free radicals and α-glucosidase enzyme (157.5 μg/mL). Hence, it can be concluded that O. albidum has an aptitude to act against tuberculosis and diabetes.
