Abstract

VACCINES AND ADJUVANTS: NEED TO BE KNOWN

Vaccination is an importantapproach employed in the health care system to decrease the burden ofinfectious diseases worldwide. Vaccines have saved millions of lives and playeda major role in the eradication of smallpox and reduced the infection rate ofdiseases such as polio, tetanus, diphtheria, and measles. The rapid spread ofsevere infections such as HIV, SARS, Ebola, and Zika has highlighted the needfor the development and distribution of vaccines and also against potentiallyunknown pathogens. It is therefore important to understand the fundamentalconcepts of vaccine class, mechanism of action, adjuvants, advantages and itslimitation. This review aims to provide background information about the mainvaccine and adjuvants that might be able to tackle the challenges of infectiousdiseases.
