Abstract

NANOSPONGES: A NOVEL APPROACH FOR COLON TARGETED DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM

A systematic review onnanosponges: a novel approach for colon targeted drug delivery system isdiscussed. The review attempts to elaborate the appealing features ofnanosponges, current updates of nanosponges in drug delivery and formulationdevelopment and evaluation of nanosponges for colon targeting.

Current proceeds in nanotechnology paved path for design ofnew biomaterials based on nanoscale with numerous possible applications in thefield of nanomedicine. Effectual drug delivery at a targeted site had given theoption to carry out the specific function to control the release rates and havean improved conformity on the health care system but the chemistry possessingdifficult form had made conditions complicated. But the creation of nanospongeshas given a noteworthy approach toward solving this trouble. Nanosponges play asignificant role in targeting drug delivery in a controlled manner. A broaddiversity of drugs, both the lipophilic as well as hydrophilic can beoverloaded into nanosponge for targeting drug delivery and eventually improvesolubility and bioavailability of the same drug. Nanosponge can travel aroundthe whole body until they interrelate with the specific target site and attachon the surface and begin to release the drug in a controlled manner.
